Academic Staffs Union of University, Raises the Alarm over Single Treasury Account

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)  has disparaged the federal government over the policy of single treasury account (STA), describing it as detrimental to the growth of the university system.

Speaking at the end of the National Executive Council meeting held at the Imo State University, Owerri, the ASUU president, comrade Nasir Isa said that the union would also resist any measure that emasculates university operations or robs the system of its autonomy.

He said while the union appreciates steps put in place by President Muhammadu Buhari's administration to promote transparency and accountability in public institutions including Nigerian universities, it would resist retrogressive policies capable of robbing the university system of its autonomy.

He said all over the world universities control their finances for the purposes of short, medium and long-term planning.
