Following Tuesday’s armed robbery incident at FESTAC Town, Lagos, the Inspector General of police (IGP), Mr. Solomon Arase, has ordered the removal of the Commander, Area E, ACP Frank Mba, who was in charge of the area that the robbery took place.
Mba has been redeployed to Osogbo, Osun State.
The IGP who visited the robbery scene yesterday vowed that the perpetrators must be arrested and prosecuted.
Arase, who was represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2 Command, comprising Lagos and Ogun states, Mr. Bala Hassan, admitted that the canal where the robbers used as their route is a very difficult terrain to patrol.
Hassan said investigation has shown that some witnesses saw the robbers coming in two speedboats but failed to inform the police.
The AIG who was on-the-spot assessment with the Lagos State Commissioner of Police (CP) Fatai Owoseni, called on members of the public to always give the police information on any suspicious movement.
The AIG who also addressed some of the bank workers asked them to resume duty as the police were ready to protect them.
Meanwhile, residents of FESTAC Town have continued to reveal more facts on the robbery attack.
Contrary to reports that the bandits were all dressed in military uniform, The Guardian gathered that they were dressed in different attires including corporate wears.
According to a witness, Aina, a hawker who sells herbs in the area, the robbers were dressed in different clothes.
“The man that stood on my counter was wearing a well tailored suit. If I tell you that I saw his face, I would be lying, and the sound of the gun erased the sense from my memory. I was not thinking, I can’t recall how I escaped to a house at 5th Avenue.”
Apart from the man standing near Aina’s kiosk, it was gathered that another one climbed a tree in front of Block 10.
“There was a man who climbed on the tree. It was from there that he was shooting,” said the witness.
The eyewitness said it was members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) Omojuomolo Scorpion King base who prevented the third bank, FCMB, from being robbed.
