A notorious fraudster who specializes in defrauding people on the
pretense of helping them buy jeep has been nabbed by vigilant police
detectives.
Luck, however ran out on the 35-year-old Emmanuel Chukwu when he
collected money from one Christian Ekeh under the pretext of assisting
him to buy a Nissan Pathfinder Jeep but failed to deliver the vehicle.
According to the Police prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, the
accused collected the money from Ekeh and refused to deliver the
vehicle.
A 35-year-old,Emmanuel Chukwu, who allegedly defrauded a man of
N1.2 million on the pretext of helping him to buy a jeep, was on Tuesday
arraigned in Sango-Ota, Ogun. The accused man was arraigned before an
Ota Magistrate Court for collecting money on false pretense.
Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha said: “The accused collected N1.2 million with a promise of purchasing a Nissan Pathfinder jeep but failed to deliver the vehicle.’’
He told the Court the offences contravened Sections 319 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs
A.O. Abimbola, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N250, 000 with
two sureties in like sum. She said the sureties must be owners of
developed landed property while the title document should be submitted
to the court for verification. In addition, the sureties should produce
one year tax clearance.
Abimbola adjourned the case till Nov. 10.
