You all remember that awkward moment of the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards when Kanye West announced that he was considering to run for President of the United States in 2020. After he won the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, the pop star gave an incredibly long acceptance speech during which he said: “And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president.” On Saturday, President Obama, who was speaking at an event where Kanye West performed as well, gave political advice to Mr. West.
Politics and reality TV share similarities
During
his speech at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser held in San
Francisco, President Barack Obama poked fun at Kanye West. “In a little while you are going to hear from a guy who is thinking about getting into politics,” Obama said. “You
may have heard that Kanye is thinking about running [for] speaker of
the house. It couldn’t get any stranger. In case Kanye is serious about
this whole POTUS thing, or as Kanye calls it, ‘Peezy.’” President Obama shared his first piece of advice, referring to Kim Kardashian and the Keeping Up With the Kardashians reality show:
You got to deal with some strange characters who behave like they’re on a reality TV show

Staying politically correct
Referring to Kanye West’s 5th studio album called My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Obama gave Kanye another tip:“Second – this is the second important tip – saying you have a beautiful, dark, twisted fantasy, that’s what’s known as off-message in politics […] you can’t say something like that. A lot of people have lost their congressional seats saying things like this. We don’t do that.”Running against the odds
Then, the president, who also is a black man from Chicago with a non-conventional first name, jokingly said in front of the crowd of approximately 1300 people:“Number three, do you really think that this country is going to elect a black guy from the South Side of Chicago with a funny name to be president of the United States?”
