Operatives of the police, Department of State Services, the
military and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, on
Wednesday, October 21, rounded up 20 suspects during a raid at a black
spot in Nyanya, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory.
The taskforce set up by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP
Solomon Arase, was said to have carried out the arrest at Nyanya, a
settlement now notorious for Boko Haram terrorists attack. The latest
was a twin bomb blasts attack which occurred on October 2, 2015.
According to eye-witness report, 20 suspects were being conveyed in
vehicles by policemen and soldiers along the Abuja end of the
Nyanya-Keffi Expressway.
The Force spokesman, ACP Olabisi Kolawole, when contacted confirmed
that the taskforce raided the town following an intelligence report of
some crime suspects hiding in the area.
She further explained that the operation was part of strategies to
prevent the commission of crime by criminal elements in the FCT,
stressing that the raid to apprehend criminals would continue.
“Yes, a Joint taskforce comprising the police, DSS, the
military, and the civil defence corps carried out an operation in Nyanya
this evening (yesterday) and arrested some suspects. The Taskforce was
set up by the IG and is led by the police.
“The suspects that were arrested are currently being processed;
the operation was meant to prevent crime and frustrate criminals before
they commit crimes and it will continue throughout the FCT,” she said.
