Every fashionable Nigerian girl
understands the need to look to trends from Paris, Milan, London and New
York fashion weeks for inspiration. The runways never fail to present
the most sensational outfits in sartorial style, fabrics, colors,
accessories, hairstyles and makeup. While the clothes and shoes are
usually the most talked about, the beauty trends are also a huge part of
the show, as they are easier, cheaper and much quicker to adapt.
We
have gotten
a peep into the 2016 spring/summer collection for New York
and London Fashion Week and there is a lot to be excited about.
If
you are eager to take on the best beauty trends featured during the
shows you are certainly in luck! Jovago.com, Africa’s No. 1 online hotel
booking service has rounded up the most striking beauty looks on the
runways at Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016 to help you look fab all year
long.
1. Blue Eyes Colour
From
the electric-blue liner at Hugo Boss and 3.1 Phillip Lim, to the cobalt
cream eye-makeup of models at Marc Jacobs’, blue was a favorite of
designers as seen on the runway for the season. Models wore graphic
eyeliners, while others had strategic pops of blue around their eyes.
There is no denying that the call for blue on the eyes will be strong
around the streets of Lagos this season.
2. The Classic Red Pout
The
red lip is a timeless beauty trend however, for this season it was made
softer and had a more subdued look. The cherry red was a favorite,
although a few designers still featured bright, fiery shades of the
colour. Some of the favourites were featured by Maybelline for DKNY and
Jason Wu, M.A.C. for Oscar de la Renta, and Laura Mercier for Jenny
Packham.
3. Bold Brows
Bold
brows have been on trend for about two years now, but for 2016, the
trend is taken a bit further as the lines get even bigger. Even Vogue refers to the trend as ‘HD brows”. Models were seen on Nigeria’s runways with
exaggerated eyebrows which gave them an intense look. The best
adaptations of this trend was seen at Balmain and Dolce & Gabbana as
well as Proenza Schouler.
4. Messy Buns
Judging
by the fashion shows already held for 2016…it’s official; you can put
away your hairbrush and strut around with bed-hair, as long as it is
knotted at the back. The newly fashionable “intentionally messy knots”
trend was seen on several models on the runways, and has since gained
popularity among naturalistas in urban cities like Abuja, Lagos and Calabar. Rag & Bone, Jason Wu, and Tory Burch were key designers who championed this look.
5. Dark Nails
Last
season, pale baby colors and nude nails were on trend, however, as seen
in this year’s fashion shows, dark manicures will be all the rage in
the coming months. Oxblood and black were seen all over the runway and
although the trend seems very “unspring” or “unsummer” -like, it looks
very easy and cool. Some of the designers who featured this trend
include: Zoya for Zang Toi, Deborah Lippmann for Creatures of Comfort,
Jin Soon for Derek Lam, Essie for Wes Gordon.
