A student of Kogi State University, Anyigba, was allegedly beaten to death by an official of Federal Road Safety Corps after a heated argument for allegedly refusing to bribe the officer.
When news filtered into the campus, thousands of students reportedly thronged to the streets in protest before storming the FRSC office in the town during the weekend. The protesting students blocked the Ankpa-Anyigba road causing traffic holdup.
The police were seen battling to restore order to the town as bonfires were seen on the road of the university community. If not for the intervention of policemen, the students would have caused more havoc. The FRSC officer was whisked away to safety by his colleagues who ran for their lives.
Some of the students who spoke on the incident, allegedly expressed grief at the death of the final year student, threatening to fight on until justice is done.
Although the incident could not be confirmed by the Sector Commander of FRSC who refused to pick his call, a Senior Officer in the sector who spoke on condition of anonymity reportedly confirmed the incident.
