Senate President, Bukola Saraki has arrived at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) for the continued hearing of his corruption trial.
Saraki is said to have arrived the tribunal with an entourage of at least 35 senators.
According to The Cable, Some of the legislators who served as the Senate President’s escorts are Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, Andy Uba (PDP), Adamu Aliero (APC), Shehu Sani (APC), Dino Melaye (APC), Tayo Alasoadura (APC), Kabiru Gaya (APC) and Uche Ekwunife (PDP).
Earlier reports had it that the senators had received a text message urging them to accompany Saraki to the tribunal today and promising them free transportation.
Saraki attracted mass outrage on October 21 when he arrived the CCT with 81 senators accompanying him.
The CCT however
adjourned the case till today to allow the Court of Appeal make its
ruling on the matter after Saraki approached the court to challenge the
tribunal's jurisdiction to try him.
The Appeal Court subsequently ruled in favour of the tribunal hence the Senate President’s trial is expected to continue.
Meanwhile, Saraki has also approached the Supreme Court to halt the trial.
The
CCB is accusing the Senate President of anticipatory declaration of
assets and failure to declare assets acquired while he was governor of
Kwara State among others.
