Prof. Francis Otunta, a Professor of Mathematics, has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor (V-C) of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike in Abia.
This is contained in a statement signed by Prof. Anya Anya, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the university’s Governing Council, made available today in Umuahia.
The statement noted that the appointment was approved by the Governing Council following Otunta’s successful performance at an interview of shortlisted candidates for the position, which took place on Wednesday at the institution.
According to the statement, the appointment is for a single term of five years.
Otunta, who hails from Afikpo, Ebonyi, was born on April 29, 1958 and became a Professor of Mathematics, University of Benin in August 2003.
He was the Rector, Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana, Ebonyi from 2006 to 2014.
Otunta would replace Prof. Hilary Edeoga, whose tenure would lapse in March 2016.
