U.S. commends Giade’s oustanding leadership of NDLEA’s drug control efforts

The U.S. Consul General, Mr John Bray, has commended the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr Ahmadu Giade, for providing 10 years of outstanding leadership to the agency.

A statement by the agency’s spokesperson, Mr Mitchel Ofoyeju, said on Wednesday in Lagos that the consul general made the commendation during a visit to the agency’s headquarters.
The statement also said that Bray commended the management for engineering Nigeria’s rising international profile in anti-drug campaign.
It said that Bray presented two letters of commendation from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (USDEA) and International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) to Giade.
The statement also quoted the U.S. envoy as saying that Giade’s vision and steadfast service had placed the NDLEA on the road to adopting modern law enforcement investigative techniques.
It said that this had led to NDLEA to transit to an intelligence-led agency.
“Through your guidance and expertise, the agency has raised its international profile and fostered international cooperation with major stakeholders.
“These accomplishments have created a foundation upon which the NDLEA can combat drug trafficking and strengthen the security of the Nigerian people,’’ the statement said.
It congratulated Giade for 10 years of dedicated service and exceptional assistance to INL and other U.S. agencies.
“By furthering the counter-narcotics efforts of NDLEA, you have played an important role in protecting the citizens of Nigeria and countering international crime, illegal drugs and instability which ultimately affects both our countries.
“In recognition of the outstanding leadership and management of the NDLEA, the USDEA extends its hand of gratitude to the chairman of the agency for 10 years of service to the people of Nigeria.
“The world looks to your leadership and has found a friend and ally in the global fight against international drug trafficking,’’ the statement said.
It added that the NDLEA boss in his response said that he was humbled by the avalanche of commendation for his 10 years of service.
“I am humbled by the kind remarks and to know that international collaborators are mindful and appreciative of my efforts.
“I sincerely thank the U.S. for partnering with NDLEA.
“The agency has benefited immensely from your training programmes and your priceless contribution towards the success of our operations,’’ it quoted Giade as saying.
The statement also said that the Director-General of the Agency, Mrs Roli Bode-George, described the chairman as a man of integrity who served his country and humanity without blemish.
“Ahmadu Giade is a man of integrity.
“This recognition of excellent service from the U.S. government will encourage officers to always strive for outstanding performance at all times,’’ it quoted Bode-George as saying.
The statement also said that top officials of INL, USDEA, NDLEA directors and heads of units were present at the meeting.
