Frank Lampard disagrees with Jose Mourinho's claims that his players betrayed him after losing at Leicester
Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard disagrees with coach Jose Mourinho's claims that his players betrayed him after losing against Leicester, and has admitted he's unsure what the manager should do next.
The Blues are just one point above the relegation zone after goals from Leicester's in-form double act, Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez fired the hosts to a 2-1 victory.
Following the loss, Mourinho hit out at his players and although Lampard - who is the club's all-time record goalscorer, disagreed with the comments, he did show sympathy for his former boss.
The Chelsea legend was speaking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football alongside Jamie Carragher
While analysing Chelsea's loss on Sky Sports, he said:
"He's very angry, you can say that. You can applaud his honesty, to an extent. I agree with him, I don't think the players were good enough. I don't know about betrayed - his words - but they certainly didn't perform. He can't go out there and perform.
What I take from that is that he's not sure where to go with it. He's tried to be strong with them quite a lot of times earlier in the season.
He's tried after Tottenham saying that was their best performance of the season, trying to be a lot more positive. I'm not sure what he's saying there. He's not happy with them.
This is Chelsea we're talking about - Chelsea on a bad year should be top six, still there or there abouts, but where they are, just above the relegation zone just isn't possible.
I don't know whether he's lost them but something has to change, it has to change right now. Whether that be attitude, whether that be performance."
Their ninth Premier League defeat of the season leaves them in 16th place, just one point above the relegation zone but Lampard is unsure if sacking Mourinho will benefit the club.
"That'll be one man's decision, and that's Roman Abramovich. He's probably looking at it very closely. Obviously we've been here before with Chelsea changing a manager halfway through the season. I don't know how many times you can do that - we had some good results before but we had a different set of players at that point.
What they set out when Mourinho came back was a long plan. What can they gain by getting rid of him now? They're not going to make top four, they're not going to get relegated if we're honest."
