The dust raised by the Army, Shiite sect clash, seems to be taking a while to settle.
Following the release of a graphic picture showing the battered face of the Shiite sect leader, Sayyid Ibraheem Zakzaky, theHouse of Representatives have moved to investigate the root cause of the clash.
This is coming on the heels of a leaked phone conversation between Zakzaky and an Iranian, where the Shiite leader narrated that he house was under siege by the Army.
Reports also said that the wife and son of the Shiite leader were killed during the raid, an allegation the Army has debunked.
Leadership Newspapers reports that the House of Representative Speaker Hon. Yakubu Dogara mandated the relevant committees to thoroughly investigate the matter.
According to the chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas, “He(Dogara) urged Nigerians to be calm and peaceful, stressing that the House of Representatives will always be alive to its responsibilities.”
The clash between the Nigerian Army and the sect was caused by an alleged assassination attempt on the life of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, by Shiite members.
The leader of the Shiite Muslims in Nigeria denied the allegations, saying that his members did not try to assassinate Buratai.
The spokesperson of the sect, Ibrahim Musa also accused the Federal Government of planning to eliminate the Shiite movement in Nigeria.
