Security operatives in Kaduna on Monday engaged in a gun battle with cattle rustlers, killing two rustlers and recovering 232 cows.
The cows were recovered by the team of the security agencies in Saminaka Divisional Police Patrol Team at about 8:30pm following a tip-off that some cattle rustlers had arrived at Jama’ariya village in Lere local government area of Kaduna State.
The spokesman of Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed this in a press statement.
According to Aruwan, immediately the security operatives rushed to the village, the cattle rustlers engaged the team in a gun duel and as a result, two of the rustlers were killed while other rustlers escaped into the bush with gun wounds, abandoning the cows, one locally made SMG rifle, three pairs of army uniform and 12 9mm live ammunition.
The cows and the items recovered were handed over to the Saminaka Police Divisional Headquarters for further investigation to ascertain the true owners of the cows for claims while effort is being intensified to track down the fleeing rustlers.
