Two Officials of the Federal Prison, Warri, Delta State have been sanctioned over alleged extortion and other related offences.
The officials (names withheld) were alleged to have extorted money from the inmates in recent times, a situation that led to a protest by the inmates last Saturday, January 16, 2016.
A senior official of the prisons who did not want his name in the print said, “the officers, ASP Jude Okoro, and Abel Omereie (Sgt) have been sanctioned in the alleged extortion and have been asked to report immediately at the zonal office in Benin city, Edo State which means they may not return to Warri prisons.
Inmates at the prisons have been clamouring for the removal of Okoro and another officer over alleged exhortation and related offences.
The inmates on Saturday also protested highlighting lack of water, electricity, official highhandedness as major problems confronting them as well as seizure of gift items given to them by officials.
