Traders lament loss of goods in Jakande plank market inferno

Traders in Jakande plank market, Ketu, Lagos, have lamented the inferno that razed their market on Thursday, January 28, 2016.
According to eyewitness the fire started early in the morning on Thursday, January 28, around 4:00 am.

The fire destroyed three cars, an office and a toilet facility within the market.
The shop where the fire was said to have started was locked and the owners were nowhere to be found as some of the traders sleep in their shops.
One of the shop owners identified as Ba Yusuf a furniture maker who spoke to Naij.com said he was in his shop as he sometimes works overnight due to the nature of his job.
The father of seven who sells keys, doors and nails used for construction said he lost goods worth N3 million in the fire.
The old man lamenting on his loss said he can’t recollect all that was in his shop.
Another shop owner identified as Mrs Kofoworola Ejoh, said she feels the stakeholders should come together to arrange a way to respond to issues such as this.
She said that the community should have boreholes and hoses in case of emergencies like this, adding that she didn’t expect to meet any of her goods when she got to the market.
Mrs Ejoh also said she plans to have a meeting with the community leaders on rebuilding the sawmill.
