One Sabo Sani Labaran, a suspected member of an Internet syndicate was today Wednesday, arraigned before Justice Abubakar Jauro of the Gombe State High Court sitting in Gombe, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over impersonation and obtaining under false pretense.
Labaran, who is facing a 2-count charge had in October 2015, allegedly obtained N242, 000 from one Alhaji Hussaini Mai- Magani, promising that he would award him a contract for the supply of some hospital equipment.
The suspect, whose Facebook profile reportedly bears the picture of the Gombe State governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, allegedly diverted the money for personal use.
The offence is contrary to Section 1 sub-section 1(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006 and punishable under Section 1 sub-section 3 of the same Act.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution counsel, Ahmad Y. Muntaqa, in view of the suspect’s plea, asked the court for a trial date.
On his part, the defence counsel, Rahimat I. Talle, prayed the court to grant the accused bail on liberal terms.
The chief judge, Justice Jauro, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody.
Jauro adjourned the case till February 8 for mention.
