US Election: Buhari denies donating $500m to Hillary Clinton’s campaign

The Presidency, on Friday dismissed reports that President Muhammadu Buhari donated $500m to Hillary Clinton’s Presidential campaign in the just concluded United States’ election.

A video circulated online by a US group known as the American Black Group for Democracy, last week, had accused Buhari of donating $500m to Clinton’s campaign organisation.

Reacting to the report, Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Garba Shehu, who took to his twitter handle @GarShehu, maintained that the President does not have such “amount to throw around.”

Shehu wrote: “Nigeria doesn’t have this kind of money to throw around.”

Okorocha - I am losing sleep because of Imo State

Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has said he is denying himself sleep, in order to make Imo one of the fastest growing states in Nigeria.

He was speaking in Owerri on Thursday, while inspecting some of the ongoing projects. 

According to the Governor, “my interest is to make sure that by the time I finish my second term, Imo State must have been developed more that it is now.”

“I find it difficult to sleep now because I want to change the entire face of Imo so that people from all over the country will come and relax. This will be my joy. ”

“If you look at the current urban renewal programme, we are constructing 3 tunnels, two flyovers and eight lane roads to enable us open our State for transformation to take place.”

He added that: ”Imo is one of the fastest growing cities in Nigeria and so we have to make adequate attention to infrastructure development. You can see all Old projects we have remodelled and they are looking good now.”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that President Muhammadu Buhari can’t succeed in his war against corruption. Comment was made by a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Shuaib Oyedokun after Buhari said that corrupt Nigerians were using their ill-gotten wealth to fight him.

It was not badly managed under President Goodluck Jonathan.

Police Display Huge Amount Recovered from Kidnappers of the Wife of CBN Governor, Emefiele (Photos)

The Nigeria Police police have paraded the 6-gand of kidnappers who abducted the wife of CBN governor and also displayed N15 million recovered from the kidnappers.

It was reported few weeks ago that the wife of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mrs MargaretEmefiele, was kidnapped by unknown gunmen, and was later released by her abductors “due to the gallantry of the Armed Forces, Police and Security Forces”, in Ugoneki near Benin City.

 

Earlier last week, the police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, arrested six suspected members of the gang that abducted the wife of the Central Bank Governor at their hideout in Edo State and were held at the state command headquarters, Benin.

How cattle rustlers killed over 3,000 vigilante members in Katsina – Commandant

The Katsina State Command of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, says over 3,000 of its member have been killed by cattle rustlers operating in the state over the last three years.

Alhaji Abba Aliyu, state Commandant of the group told newsmen on Monday in Safana that the rustlers operate mainly in seven local government areas in the state.

“The vigilantes were killed in the past three years during clashes with cattle rustlers who have been terrorizing seven local governments in Katsina state.”

Aliyu said that the high casualty, was because the vigilante members were always in the line of fire during operations.

“The vigilante have recorded high casualty because they always lead security agents to fish out the cattle rustlers hiding in forests.

Igbo trader, accomplice who abducted 5-year-old Muslim girl nabbed in Kaduna

The abductors of a 5-year-old girl, Zainab Umar, in Kaduna state, have been apprehended, and the victim rescued.

Zainab had attended Islamiyya at Badikko area of the state on March 27 and never returned home.

It was gathered that the matter was reported at the state Police command and the police had launched a search for the missing minor.

Governor Malam Nasir el-Rufai of the state had visited the police station earlier and had ordered that the case be handled abruptly.

Zainab was, however, found on Saturday. Her unnamed aunt was said to have found her in the Malali area of the state and alerted the police.

The Command’s spokesman, ASP Aliyu Usman, who spoke on the incident on Sunday, told newsmen in the state that the victim, fondly called Sultana, was abducted by two suspects, including an Igbo trader named Beatrice.

The Federal Government has explained why the forgery charges it leveled against the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, and two others was withdrawn.

Saraki, Ekweremadu, as well as a former Clerk of the National Assembly, Salisu Maikasuwa, and a former Deputy clerk, Ben Efeturi, were first arraigned before Justice Yusuf Halilu on June 10, 2016 on charges bordering on forgery of the Senate rules, to which they all pleaded not guilty.

Reports however emerged yesterday that the government has decided to withdraw the charges leveled against the principal officers of the National Assembly.

German government gives Nigeria €47.6m to resettle Boko Haram victims

The German government has doled out €47.6m as financial support to Nigeria to resettle victims of Boko Haram attacks.

Leader of a German delegation, Mrs. Renate von Boddien, made this revelation during a meeting of the Nigeria-Germany Consultations on Development Cooperation, hosted by the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning in Abuja on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by the ministry, Boddien was quoted as saying that the commitment was part of bilateral technical cooperation and special project initiative aimed at tackling the root causes of displacement of refugees and speed up their integration under the ‘One World No Hunger Green Innovation’.

She said the action will also strengthen Germany’s support for the Green Innovation Centre for Agriculture and Food Sector.

Assets declarations: CCB set to probe Fashola, Amechi, Ogbeh, others

The Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, has expressed its resolve to verify all assets declared by top serving and former public officers at the federal, state and local government levels.

A statement by the Chairman of the CCB, Mr. Sam Saba on Thursday, said all officials concerned are expected to appear physically before the commission for the verification.

He stated that by virtue of Paragraph 11 of Part 1 of the Fifth Schedule to the 1999 Constitution (as amended), “every public officer is required to submit to the Code of Conduct Bureau a written declaration of all properties, assets and liabilities and those of his/her spouse (if not a public officer) and his unmarried children under the age of 18 years.”

He added that any statement in the declaration, found to be false by any authorities or persons authorised to verify it, “shall be deemed to be a breach of the code”.

Saba said, “To this end, the Bureau has commenced its 2016 4th Quarter Cycle of Conference and Field Verification of Assets of top public officers. Accordingly, letters of invitation have been dispatched to ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, service chiefs and other top public officers.

Army kills 7 militants in Bakassi, recover arms

Troops from the 13 Brigade Nigerian Army Calabar, at the early hours of Friday, repelled an attack on its soldiers by killing seven armed militants at Efut Esighi in Bakassi local government area of Cross River.

Capt. Kayode Owolabi, Army Public Relations Officer (APRO) who disclosed this to newsmen on Friday in Calabar, said that the militants attacked the Army post in Efut Esighi.

Owolabi linked the militants to be `boys’ of the most wanted militant leader, Benjamin Ene a.k.a `G1’ who has been on the wanted list of security agencies in the state.

“The very determined troops from the 13 Brigade and Operation Delta Safe repelled an attack from armed militants at Efut Esighi in Bakassi local government area this morning.

“The militants tried to attack the Army post in Efut Esighi. Some of them were wearing Nigerian military camouflage.

Zika - Thailand confirms 2 cases of virus-linked microcephaly

Thailand confirmed on Friday that the Zika virus had caused two cases of microcephaly, a condition that results in babies being born with small heads, the first time it has been linked to Zika in Southeast Asia.

The Thai health ministry said on Tuesday it was investigating four suspected cases, three babies and an unborn baby.

The confirmation came a day after U.S. health officials recommended that pregnant women postpone nonessential travel to 11 Southeast Asian countries, including Thailand, because of the risk of mosquito-borne Zika.

"We have found two cases of small heads linked to Zika, the first cases in Thailand," Prasert Thongcharoen, an adviser to the Department of Disease Control, told reporters in Bangkok.

He declined to say where in Thailand the cases were found.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) said in a statement the cases were the first of Zika-linked microcephaly in Southeast Asia.

U.S. health officials have concluded that Zika infections in pregnant women can cause microcephaly, a birth defect marked by small head size that can lead to severe developmental problems in babies.

A 49-year-old trader, Uchena Elumadu, has confessed to raping his 15 year-old daughter.Elumadu had been accused of raping his unnamed daughter, his first child, at their home on Martins Street, new Oko Oba, in the Agege area of Lagos State and administered drugs on her to prevent pregnancy.

The Imo State indigene was paraded before newsmen on Thursday at the state police headquarters.

In his confession, he said he had only raped his daughter twice, adding that he was drunk the first time he committed the act.

He said, “I don’t know what came over me. I have only raped her twice. My wife doesn’t know I have been doing this. I first slept with her sometime last year.

“That day, I had gone for a naming ceremony and I was drunk. My friend had abused me that I always took non-alcoholic drinks and I should try a little alcohol. They got me drunk. It was the little I took that made me misbehave.

“The second time, I was in the house with my wife when I sneaked into the room and raped her. I was not the one that deflowered her.

2016 Budget padding: Jibrin gives lawmakers three days to return illegal allowances to FG
