The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Plateau on Friday urged motorists plying highways in the state to desist from committing road crimes.
The Acting Sector Commander of the corps in the State, Mr Ibrahim Bello, made the plea while briefing newsmen in Jos, to mark the Road Traffic Crashes (RTC) Remembrance Day.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the RTC week is a period set aside to remember those who lost their lives in road crashes.
Bello, who is the Head of Administration of the Command, explained that the FRSC had set aside the period to pray for the victims, as well as sensitise motorists and the general public on the need to obey traffic rules and regulations.
“The RTC week is a time slated for us to pray for those who died as result of road accidents.
“We are also going to use this period to create more awareness on the need for people to ensure strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations.
“It is very disheartening to see drivers plying highways with bad vehicles, especially those with worn out tyres.
“It is also not good for drivers to engage in speeding, overloading and dangerous overtaking, while on the road,’’ he said.
According to him, it is equally not right for tanker drivers to keep intimidating smaller vehicles on the highways.
“This is why as we pray for the departed souls; we are equally using this medium to warn motorists to desist from any act that could lead to road carnage, because life is precious,’’ Bello said.
He also advised motorists to desist from drunk-driving, as this was one of the major causes of road accidents.
NAN reports that the corps had mapped out activities to mark the RTC week in the state.
The activities lined up include Jumat prayers at the Jos Central Mosque and an Awareness Campaign at the Bauchi Central Motor Park.
Other slated activities are a Road Walk, and a Church Service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Zaria Road, on Sunday, Nov. 15.
