Man, 35, Docked For Impersonation

A 35-year-old man, Taiwo Isiaka, was on Wednesday docked at an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly impersonating a police officer.
The accused, who resides at Garage area of Ikorodu, is charged with impersonation by wearing the uniform of a police officer of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Kemi Adeniran, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 19, at 8.30 p.m., at Benson Bus stop in Ikorodu Town.
“The accused wore the police uniform to seize motorcycles from their owners.
“There have been several reports at the police station about him and the police decided to lay siege and he was caught in the act.
“He collected a Bajaj Motorcycle with Reg. No. BDG 296 QH from the owner, Salisu Umaru,’’ he said.
Adeniran said the offence contravened Section 78 of the Criminal Code Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 78 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Makanju, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000, with two sureties in like sum.
Makanju said the sureties, who must be gainfully employed, should show evidence of five years tax payment.
She adjourned the case till Dec.27 for mention.
