The newly posted Commissioner of Police , Borno State Command, Mr. Shuaibu Lawal Gambo, has disclosed that the Force lost over 1,000 of its men to the activities of Boko Haram which lasted over six years in the Northeast.
The CP, who stated this when he paid a courtesy call to Governor Kashim Shettima at the Government House Maiduguri, yesterday said Borno state will soon witness a lasting peace.

He said he is determined to work assiduously to ensure that, the insurgency that’s ravaging the country is brought to an end within the stipulated December deadline given by President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said, “The IGP has given me a mandate to come and serve the people of Borno State. By God`s willing, we will work hard to see that Borno regain its lost glory as “Home of Peace”.
He commended the good people of Borno state for cooperating with the security agencies by giving useful information and urged them to continue the good work, adding that the state government also within its meagre resources has assisted the police and other security agencies in the effective discharge of their duties.
Responding, Governor Kashim Shettima said with the new commissioner’s background, as the immediate past commissioner in charge of counter terrorism, he believe that the IGP is putting a round peg in a round hole and that he will bring his experience to bear in bringing to an end the insurgency.
He said, “The Borno state government will continue to give the police all necessary support to succeed as no meaningful development could be achieved without peace.”
Shettiima requested the police High command to equip the police in the state with sophisticated weapons as the Boko Haram have more sophisticated weapons.
He said the state government has procured 40 Hilux vehicles, renovated Benisheik and Gwange and Jakana Police stations, assuring that his government will continue to support the police to achieve their mandate.
