No less than 50 suspects engaging in illegal lottery operations in Lagos State have been arrested.
Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Lotteries Board, Mr. Lanre Gbajabiamila,
made this known in a statement on Friday 6th of November, saying that
the state government would no longer allow illegal lotteries operations
in the state, Today reports.
Most Lotto services in Lagos are generally referred to as 'Baba Ijebu', after the first lotto service in the state.
He
also said “ security operatives have been mandated to go all out in the
metropolis and arrest anyone found operating without license and
authorisation from the state lotteries board.”
Gbajabiamila
insisted that the board “remained the only statutory regulatory body
for lottery and related activities in the state.”
He
added that the board was established by the Lagos State Lotteries Law
2004 (as amended) and authorised to license and regulates gaming
activities conducted within the state.
He
explained that the board neither issue nor recognises ‘sports lottery
license/permit’ or ‘promotional lottery permits’ by whatsoever name
called for operations within the state.
Gbajabiamila therefore advised members of the public against patronising illegal operators.
He
listed some of recognised licensed operators allowed “to conduct
lottery and related activities in Lagos State to include Premier Lotto
Limited (Babaijebu), Winners Golden Chance Ventures Limited (Golden
Chance lotto), Winlot Global Resources Ventures Limited (Winlot),
Superior Games Limited (Big Games) and Softplug Gaming Nigeria Limited.”
Others
are Get Altitude Nigeria Limited (Nairabet), Winners Bookmakers Nigeria
Limited (1960bet), Marawin Limited (Sportybet), KC Gaming Networks
Limited (Bet9ja), ChessPlus International Limited (Surebet247), Merry
Bet Gold Limited (Merrybet).
