The Federal Road Safety Corps, said reports from the World Health Organisation (WHO) indicate that not less than 3,200 people die daily on the World’s Roads with tens of thousands being disabled for life.
The FRSC, which stated this at the kick off of this year’s Africa’s Road Safety Day/World day of remembrance for road traffic victims yesterday, in Abuja also stated that other empirical studies show that automobile crashes have become one of the leading causes of death of young adults who constitute the productive age bracket, with attendant consequences on the economy.
Speaking on this background, the Corps marshal and chief executive of the FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi, who was represented by his dupty, Ahmed Hassan explained that this is why the Federal Road Safety Corps will continue to show commitment to pursuing policies and programmes that could address the challenge.
He further noted that the day of remembrance for victims of road traffic crashes offers the FRSC the opportunity for increased public awareness on the challenges which Road Traffic crashes place on the communities to take necessary steps that can promote major public health and development initiatives that can assist the victims.
